Microsoft Defender for Endpoint E3 Licenses Now Includes New Capabilities

2022 IT trends have shown an increased focus on work from anywhere and reduced effectiveness of on-premises security solutions. In FY2020-21 there was an increase of 15% on cyber-attacks with over 67,500 security reports being made throughout the financial year.

Key Challenges

Are you fully leveraging the security capabilities already included in E3?

Many organizations assume advanced endpoint protection requires additional licensing, while E3 already includes powerful built-in capabilities.

Defender for Endpoint provides real-time threat detection, behavioral analysis, and automated remediation, helping organizations proactively identify and stop attacks before they spread.

How do you keep up with rapidly evolving threats?

Cyber threats are becoming more sophisticated, including AI-driven attacks and zero-day vulnerabilities.

Microsoft continues to enhance Defender with AI-driven detection, predictive protection, and automated security operations, enabling teams to respond faster and more effectively to emerging threats.

How do you manage security across a complex, hybrid environment?

Modern organizations operate across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments — often with multiple device types.

Defender for Endpoint offers centralized visibility and integration across the Microsoft security ecosystem, allowing security teams to monitor and respond to threats across endpoints, identities, and applications from a single platform.

As a result, Microsoft is adding additional endpoint security protection functionality into their enterprise license to ensure end users and businesses remain secure regardless of where they work. Why is this a big deal? Microsoft Defender has been recognised as one of the most comprehensive security solutions on the market, ranking as the top end-point management platforms in Gartner’s 2021 report. The report compared 19 security platforms on the market in five key areas of security: access management, unified endpoint management tools, cloud access security brokers, enterprise information archiving and endpoint protection platforms. In mid-January Microsoft announced that Microsoft 365 E3 licenses will have access to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 1. The inclusions of the Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 1 into the Microsoft 365 E3 license suite will add new levels of security to E3 licensed organisations at no additional cost. Furthermore, it provides protection across all devices including macOS, Android and iOS enabling a cohesive security platform throughout your organisation. Protection to more devices helps to reduce risks and gaps in security, as multiple security vendors make it difficult to provide end to end protection.

Other Benefits Include:

  • Next-generation antimalware that is cloud-based with built-in AI that helps to stop ransomware, known and unknown malware, and other threats in their tracks.
  • Attack surface reduction capabilities that harden the device, prevent zero days, and offer granular control over access and behaviours on the endpoint.
  • Device based conditional access that offers an additional layer of data protection and breach prevention and enables a Zero Trust approach.
